Music is really a huge chunk of my life and saying that 'I can't live without it' is an understatement. When I go to the gym and work out, I need to listen to upbeat or punk rock music. When I'm on my way to work, I need to listen to my current favs (still not sick of The Weeknd's new album) When I create art or a blog entry, I need to listen to chill songs.
And the list goes on and on.
Here's an entire playlist of songs that made survive 2016. Enjoy!
One random afternoon while I was browsing one of my favorite bands' YouTube channel, I came across a video they made while they were on tour. It was a compilation of one second clips from different places filled with different people and different emotions. The video was very one of a kind and while watching the video, never have I imagined that I will be creating one myself.
Days before starting school as a senior college student, I've been having weird dreams. Weird dreams that I can hardly remember the moment I wake up. The morning exactly the day before classes, I woke up and instantly thought about the one second everyday video I mentioned earlier by one of my favorite bands. I have no idea why but it certainly gave me an idea to create the project myself for my senior year of college.
I’ve been a big fan of watching DIY tutorial videos on YouTube and always thought and daydreamed of creating those kinds of videos myself. Weeks ago, I finally had time to film and edit; so, before the year ends I can fulfill one of my goals. This is my first ever DIY tutorial on my YouTube channel and hopefully not the last! I have a notebook filled with future DIY video ideas and I really hope I’ll accomplish them all :)
Recently, our block planned a Christmas costume party and I honestly had no idea what to wear. I really wanted a Scream Queens-inspired costume (I am so obsessed with the show!!!) but I find these faux fur coats from H&M, Zara and the like really expensive. To think that I’ll just wear the faux fur coat during the party, I really don’t want to spend thousands for it.
Flashback to the year 2012, when I was a high school senior browsing college courses online. I came across with the course Advertising Arts. Honestly back then, I have zero knowledge about advertising agencies or advertising in general here in the Philippines. The career opportunities that were listed on the website were really the main reason why I got interested in pursuing advertising. Just imagine my excitement reading these: computer graphic artist (both in print and TV), creative director, art director, videographer/editor (both TV and film), event planner, visual merchandising artist, fashion designer/merchandiser, layout artist/illustrator, creative and copy writer, account manager, marketing assistant, and art educator. That time, I knew that advertising can open many doors to people that are planning to pursue the major once they graduate.
Fast-forward to the year 2015, I am currently a graduating Advertising Arts student. So far, I believe that the course made me become more open-minded about the arts and advertising in general. Also in a way, it made me confident enough to voice out my ideas and opinions. It made me believe that without advertising, the world would become dreary.
I thought it would be interesting interviewing online influencers here in the Philippines and ask them about their insights about advertising.
Another day, another artwork. This is the first fashion illustration that I posted for The Art Diary Series. Honestly, I would always have a hard time with fashion illustration mainly because I still have no idea what my art style is. I don't even have the proper art materials. I just use random sabog brushes that I see here at home. I really hope before the year ends, I'll finally have an aesthetic for all of my artworks. I want to produce artworks wherein people would know that I made them. Hope you enjoy episode 6 xx
I've been updating my YouTube channel and I actually have a list of people that I'll be drawing for my upcoming episodes for The Art Diary Series :) For episode five, I decided draw the beautiful Kendall Jenner. I love her look during the Givenchy Spring 2016 Menswear show! I have a lot of plans for my channel. Besides continuing The Art Diary Series, I want to start making D.I.Y videos also! Will definitely find time to create one soon. Please subscribe to my channel! x
My thesis idea book AKA my bff for this school year
From reading the title, you might have an idea on what I've been doing these past few weeks. Thinking of a thesis title is dreadful to the point where I wish I have thought about my thesis during my early years in college. Maybe I was really just caught up with so many plates and paperwork. Back in my freshmen year, I was 100% sure that I'm going to pick fashion as my thesis category. Ever since I can remember, designing an entire fashion collection, having my own boutique, celebrities and models wearing my creation, seeing my creation on the catwalk/red carpet are definitely my ultimate goals in life.
When I applied at the University of Santo Tomas, I picked my course by just simply reading the "career options" area at the description. Creative director, art director, photographer, graphic designer, painter, and fashion designer to name a few were some of the career options listed at the Advertising Arts department. I was very ecstatic to see 'fashion designer' in the list of opportunities because ever since I was 10, I really dreamt of becoming one. When I got accepted and experienced the life of a freshman CFAD student, I wanted to experience taking electives already. I was really impressed with the higher batches especially when they exhibit their works at the Beato Gallery.
I can't believe my last blog entry was way way back in September. Really ecstatic on the idea that I am actually updating this blog right at this very moment. So much has happened in the last six months. I turned twenty two, I finished crazy amount of plates (both traditional and digital), I got addicted to Kim Kardashian Hollywood, I learned how to use Adobe After Effects and Adobe Flash Professional, attended my second to the last Paskuhan as a UST student, and I am currently taking up Fashion and Costume Design as my second semester elective. In just a few months, I'll be taking up my on-the-job training. I am actually panicking right now because I need to find a company before April 22 (less than 3 weeks from now) Junior year of college is such a roller coaster ride especially for CFAD students because we need to balance plates and minor subjects, organizing forms, creating a resume and a portfolio for OJT and a whole lot more. A lot of things happening in a short amount of time and really hoping all of my efforts will be worth it. Until next time xx
Casually browsing my Facebook timeline and saw British Vogue's update on Milan Fashion Week. They already posted an album of the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear collection, and the clothes literally took my breath away. I love how detailed the pieces are and how the clothes mold the female figure perfectly. I honestly would really love to meet Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in the future. Check out the fabulous pieces under the cut.
These days, I find it so hard to film because I have to prioritize school works (plates, researches, and the like) But one of my goals this year is to really focus on updating my YouTube channel and fill it up with videos! For the fourth episode of The Art Diary, I chose the selfie queen -- Kylie Jenner. I had a hard time on choosing what photo should I paint since she has like over a million photos posted online!
For the Episode 3 of The Art Diary Series, I chose one of my favorite YouTube personalities, Katy Bellotte also popularly known as hellokatyxo. I remember the first time I watched one of her videos on YouTube; it was three years ago and I’m positive that it was a room tour video because it’s always been my guilty pleasure watching room tour videos. It’s just so much fun to watch! Other videos I’m also obsessed with watching are definitely what’s in my (school, beach, office, etc) bag videos and random do-it-yourself project videos.
I was honestly not expecting to go to this year's Preview Ball that is why when I received a direct message from StyleBible on Twitter, I was surprised. I had mixed emotions because I am a big fan of Preview Magazine ever since and I always admire their anniversary issues but also I have no idea on what to wear since the theme of this year's best dressed ball is Skin City (eeep!)
I recently went to Davao with my sister Say Tioco Artillero and Joyce Sola! They were having a make-up workshop there and Say tagged me along because they need a photographer. It was my first time going to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and riding an airplane, so it was definitely a very memorable experience.
Since I was only going to watch one show this season, I decided to wear something simple. A basic black top I got for free from Cache Cache (with a minimum of P1000 purchase) and a cute bird print skirt (which I borrowed from my sister) from the SM Store. I also used the recent pastel mint green clutch I bought from the SM Store. I love it to death! I wish they sell the clutch in other dainty pastel colors also :)
It’s always exciting seeing the creations of local designers here in the Philippines. It makes me feel even more inspired to achieve my lifelong dream of becoming a designer myself. I have a long way to go but I will truly work hard to achieve my dream. This year, I had an opportunity to experience Philippine Fashion Week again. I’ve been going ever since 2009. One day, hopefully I will go there as a designer (fingers crossed!)
A year ago, I started making a speed up video of myself painting. It was very challenging to film it back then because I was just using my iPod Touch with no tripod or anything, so I decided to just sit on the floor while doing the artwork and place my iPod on top of an open drawer. I really had a hard time filming but I still had fun. I was certain that I will be creating more speed up painting videos and put it up on my YouTube channel but when school started, it was kind of impossible with all the plates (disadvantage of being a fine arts student).
Sunnies by Charlie – Sunnies Station Opening (October 24, 2013)
The moment I saw the announcement that Sunnies by Charlie will have a kiosk opening at the SM Mall of Asia, I totally freaked out and contacted my friends. We were so happy since the kiosk opening will occur during our semestral break (no conflict with the class schedule & the like). Whenever I go to the mall, I always admire the store Charlie since they sell practical yet chic clothes and the sunnies they are selling were really eye-catching since the design are very unique. That is why I got so excited about Sunnies by Charlie.
I always get excited to check the Philippine Fashion Week schedules online because I want to know i Michael Cinco will be flaunting his creations again. I am in love with everything Michael Cinco makes. I get jealous of the models since they get to be wrapped in the amazing creations of Michael Cinco and get paid for it!
I can still remember the first time I've experienced Philippine Fashion Week back in 2009. My sister and I volunteered to Runway Productions. So, our first experience of the fashion week here in Manila is a bit overwhelming. We had access backstage and the like. It was a fun and memorable experience! Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2009 to Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2013... oh how time flies.
